(see this users gallery) This is my boat. Well, it was when I lived in Orlando. Now that I've moved to L.A., it's day has probably finally come. But after 30+ years, I think it's done well. We repainted it about 6 years ago and had a print shop make a replica of the original manufacturer decal.
Yup, believe it or not, this is an original MasterCraft. That's right, before they sold the name to the ski boat maker and their hull molds to Wellcraft. It's 21' and a cabin cruiser, with a rebuilt 1985 Evinrude 235 outboard.
We custom-rigged it for a Skylon pole I bought off the back of Wakeboarding magazine like 7 years ago. We cut a hole in the floor and mounted special hooks on the deck to fasten it to. The boat's a hog, on gas (and premix oil), and speed. There was always something wrong with it, though sadly, the last time I took it out in April it ran so perfect that the fact I may very likely never use it again brings a tear to me eye. ;-(
One bad muthah that kicked up a massive wake and owned Lake Down. It was the one boat that everyone on the lake knew, and feared when it was on the prowl! Watchout!
This suckah has probably logged more water hours in the last 8 years than all the ski boats in my neighborhood combined. Many a fun day were had, and countless friends, family, and passerby can attest to its awesome majesty and prowess at providing a massive wake for boarding (and tubing!). I'd bring it to Cali, but then I'd have to pay to store it and besides, the engine is so old it's probably illegal on the lakes out here! |
